Senator Cotton believes that Congress does not possess the power to reject electors.

In an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Sen. Tom Cotton stated that Congress lacks the authority to reject certified electors from a state. He indicated that he would respect the election results of this year and vote to certify them, as he did in 2020.

Sen. Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas who is rumored to be a potential vice president for Donald Trump, acknowledged a disagreement with the former president on what Congress can do on election day. He emphasized that rejecting electors is not within Congress’ constitutional authority and was never a practical possibility.

Regarding the election results, Cotton affirmed, “I will accept the results of the election and certify them if it’s a fair and a free election.”

When asked about a potential invitation to serve as Trump’s running mate, Cotton responded that any patriot offered a chance to serve the country by the president should seriously consider it.

Regarding Trump’s goal of pardoning individuals charged in connection with the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, Cotton suggested evaluating each case on its merits, similar to how Trump made decisions during his presidency.

Sen. Cotton also expressed support for pardoning individuals charged with minor offenses related to the Capitol incident, such as those who did not harm law enforcement or damage property.
