Senator Cotton endorses Representative Rogers for Michigan’s vacant Senate seat

In a significant development that could alter Michigan’s political landscape, Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas has officially endorsed former Rep. Mike Rogers in the upcoming U.S. Senate race, adding fuel to an already intense battleground, as reported by the Daily Caller reported.

Cotton’s endorsement solidifies Rogers’ position as the favored candidate for Michigan’s hotly contested Senate seat.

“Mike Rogers has dedicated his career to combatting China’s economic and military threats and has been a leading voice in exposing their attempts to undermine our national security. I am honored to join former President Donald Trump in endorsing Mike Rogers for the next U.S. Senator from Michigan,” Cotton stated.

In a joint press release obtained exclusively by the Daily Caller News Foundation, Cotton’s endorsement aligns with Trump’s vocal support for Rogers, highlighting a unified front within the Republican party.

The announcement, made on Thursday, further cements Rogers’ position as the leading candidate in the GOP primary, with strong backing from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, positioning him to face off against Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin in the November election.

Cotton’s endorsement adds to the growing list of influential figures supporting Rogers, including Republican Senators Steve Daines of Montana, John Barrasso of Wyoming, Katie Britt of Alabama, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Joni Ernst of Iowa, and John Kennedy of Louisiana.

In addition, Republican Representatives Jack Bergman, Lisa McClain, and Tim Walberg of Michigan, former Rep. Candice Miller from Michigan, and former Detroit Police Chief James Craig have also endorsed Rogers, further boosting his momentum in the race.

Former Senate candidate James Craig redirected his support to Rogers following his decision to explore a potential mayoral bid in Detroit in 2025, while Peter Meijer chose to withdraw from the Senate race due to changing dynamics.

The GOP primary on August 6 will see Rogers competing against former Rep. Justin Amash, businessman Sandy Pensler, physician Sherry O’Donnell, and other candidates vying for the Senate seat.

Amidst this political upheaval, a recent Emerson College poll indicates Rogers’ significant lead among registered Republican voters, with 32% of respondents supporting him.

In contrast, Amash trails at 8%, while Pensler and O’Donnell have 3% and 2% support, respectively, showcasing Rogers’ strong position in the primary race.

Meanwhile, Slotkin presents a formidable challenge, holding a slight lead over Rogers by 2 points, with 19% of voters undecided.
