Senator Cotton opposes providing student loan bailouts to convicted campus protesters

Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas has proposed a bill that would stop pro-Hamas protestors who have been convicted of crimes related to their campus protests from receiving forgiveness on their student loans.

The “No Bailout for Campus Criminals Act” stipulates that individuals convicted of any offense during a protest at a higher education institution will not be eligible for student loan forgiveness.

In a statement, Cotton said, “Americans who have responsibly paid off their debts or never attended college should not be burdened with paying off the student loans of individuals who sympathize with Hamas and disrupt campuses.”

Several Republican senators are co-sponsoring this bill along with Senator Cotton, and Representative Brandon Williams from New York is leading similar legislation in the House.

Cotton has criticized the “fanatical students” responsible for taking over college campuses and disrupting campus activities. He emphasized the need for university administrators to restore law and order on their campuses.
