Senator Cotton Opposes Student Loan Forgiveness for Convicted Campus Protesters
Senator Tom Cotton, a Republican from Arkansas, has put forth a bill that would bar any pro-Hamas demonstrators found guilty of a crime related to their protests on college campuses from receiving forgiveness on their student loans.
The “No Bailout for Campus Criminals Act” states that individuals convicted of offenses during protests at higher education institutions will not be eligible for forgiveness or modification of certain Federal student loans.
Cotton remarked, “Americans who either didn’t attend college or dutifully paid off their debts should not have to shoulder the burden of paying off the student loans of Hamas sympathizers causing disruptions and vandalism on campuses.”
The bill is cosponsored by several Republican Senators and a companion bill is being led by Representative Brandon Williams in the House.
In an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt, Cotton accused “fanatical students” of orchestrating campus takeovers and urged university administrators to take back control and restore order.
