Senator Cruz Warns of ‘Real Risk’ of Trump Guilty Verdict Despite Lack of Crime
Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, expressed concern that former President Donald Trump may be convicted in his New York criminal trial despite the lack of evidence of a crime, during an interview on Hugh Hewitt’s radio show on Tuesday.
Cruz criticized the prosecution, mentioning the biased prosecutor, Attorney General Alvin Bragg, and the partisan judge, Juan Merchan. Despite the favorable circumstances for the defense, Cruz still believes there is a risk of conviction.
He pointed out the testimonies, including that of Michael Cohen admitting to theft from Trump, and emphasized the possibility of a biased jury pool leading to an unfavorable outcome for Trump.
Trump is accused of falsifying business records to conceal a payment to Stormy Daniels. Cruz believes that if there is a conviction, it will likely be overturned on appeal but expressed concern about the impact on the upcoming election.
In another interview, Senator Tom Cotton, also a Harvard Law School graduate, criticized the trial as a denial of due process, calling for a directed verdict of not guilty for Trump due to lack of evidence of any crime.
