Senator Fetterman condemns “Recreational Cruelty” towards Representative Boebert
Senator John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, spoke out in support of Republican Representative Lauren Boebert and her family following the arrest of her 18-year-old son earlier this week.
Lauren Boebert’s oldest son, Tyler Boebert, 18, was arrested on Tuesday in Rifle, Colorado, on 22 charges, including several felonies, for a series of alleged property theft and vehicle trespass. He was released on bail on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear in court on April 11.
His arrest coincided with Rep. Boebert’s tweet about the “Biden crime family,” which sparked a backlash on social media.
Fetterman, a father of three, called for “restraint” in response to the situation.
“This is a family facing a crisis, and the harsh treatment I see on social media needs to stop. I understand the impact this has on children. I am advocating for restraint because cruelty has far-reaching consequences. We must always remember that they did not choose this,” Fetterman said in a tweet.
Lauren Boebert issued a statement on her son’s arrest on Wednesday.
“I love my son Tyler, who has faced some very public challenges for a young man and has been thrust into unwanted attention. It breaks my heart to see my child struggling, especially when he has had multiple opportunities to turn his life around,” she wrote.
Rep. Boebert announced in June that Tyler had become a father to a baby boy.
However, it was her post on Tuesday that drew criticism towards her.
“The Biden Crime Family will go down as the most corrupt political family in American history,” she tweeted.
Lauren Boebert herself has been arrested at least four times, starting from her teenage years, before becoming a congresswoman. Her ex-husband, Jayson Boebert, with whom she has four sons, has been arrested twice in the past year. And now, Tyler Boebert as well.
“The Boebert Crime Family is nearing 100 total combined arrests, criminal charges, and police interactions,” Ron Filipkowski, editor-in-chief of the progressive Meidas Touch, responded.
This was just the beginning of the backlash, as reported by Newsweek here.
