Senator Joe Manchin Does Not Exclude Possibility of Running for West Virginia Governor
Reports indicate that Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is being encouraged to run for West Virginia governor, as he did not rule out the possibility when asked about it, as reported by Politico.
The push for Manchin to enter the race reportedly comes from Republicans who oppose the current GOP nominee, Patrick Morrisey, according to The West Virginia Metro News.
While there is already a Democratic nominee in the race, Huntington Mayor Steve Williams, sources say that Republicans who supported Manchin’s previous tenure as governor are encouraging him to run again.
When asked about the rumors of running for governor, Manchin stated that he has supported his friend Steve Williams but did not confirm or deny the reports, as mentioned by USA Today reporter Riley Beggin.
Manchin previously served as governor of West Virginia from 2005 to 2010, and his potential candidacy has garnered support from those who believe he did a good job in that role.
