Senator Joe Manchin: Failure to Fund Ukraine Could Be the Most Horrific Act in History
Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., urged Congress to support Ukraine in its war against Russia to prevent what he warned could be the worst atrocity in history.
Legislation to provide aid to Ukraine, Israel, Gaza, and Taiwan has hit a roadblock as conservative lawmakers push for stronger border security measures before approving foreign assistance.
Speaking at Axios’ What’s Next Summit in Washington, D.C., Manchin stressed the urgency of helping Ukraine, stating, “We can’t let Ukraine suffer without our help. If we don’t assist Ukraine soon, it will be a tragic event that future generations will read about.”
“It’s unacceptable for us to not support those who are willing to sacrifice for what we have in life,” he added.
As reported by The Hill, the Ukrainian military is facing challenges due to limited resources and the advancement of Russian troops.
Manchin expressed disappointment over the failure of the House to vote on a Senate-approved border security bill, emphasizing the need to secure the border before addressing foreign aid issues.
He also commended Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., for his role in crafting a bipartisan Senate deal on border security.
Highlighting the influence of former President Donald Trump on GOP colleagues, Manchin emphasized the importance of term limits to prevent politicians from being swayed by political considerations.
