Former Democrat and current Independent U.S. Senator Joe Manchin has urged President Joe Biden to extend a pardon to Donald Trump, drawing a parallel to the contentious pardon of Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

This past Monday, Senator Manchin publicly appealed for Biden to grant a pardon to Trump, suggesting it would create a “more balanced” political landscape following the pardon of his son.

“I am just saying, wipe them out,” Manchin told CNN. “Why don’t you go ahead and pardon Donald Trump for all his charges and make it, you know, it would have gone down a lot more balanced, if you will.”

Trump has consistently maintained that the allegations against him are rooted in political bias, accusing U.S. intelligence agencies and DOJ officials under the Biden administration of colluding with the Democratic Party.

The former president is facing accusations related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents, attempted electoral interference in the 2020 election, state-level accusations of interfering with Georgia’s 2020 presidential election outcomes, and allegedly falsifying business records.

However, after Trump’s win in the 2024 elections, Special Counsel Jack Smith has dismissed the federal cases against him.

“The president has to be the president for the next four years, fighting all these criminal [cases] and all this other stuff coming after him,” Manchin stated. “Just clean that slate up.”

Manchin further commented that the pardon has complicated Biden’s legacy, as the president and his aides have misled the public for two years by asserting that Biden’s son would not receive a pardon.

On Sunday, Joe Biden pardoned his son after Hunter pleaded guilty to federal tax offenses and was convicted on federal gun charges earlier this year.
