Pennsylvania Democrat Senator John Fetterman described Florida Republican Matt Gaetz’s attorney general nomination as a “god-tier” level of trolling by President-elect Donald Trump to “own the libs in perpetuity.”

The incoming 47th president picked chose (R-Fla.) to lead the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday, in a move that stunned Republicans.

When asked about the selection, Fetterman (D-Pa.) said it was a master chess move by Trump.

“I mean, I would describe it as god-tier level trolling, that has triggered a full-on China Syndrome to own the libs in perpetuity,” Fetterman told an NBC reporter in a clip that has gone viral on X.

Fetterman also urged reporters to ask his Republican colleagues for their response to Trump picking Gaetz, who ended up resigning from Congress on Wednesday night.

“We all know, you know, what the Democratic side’s going to be,” Fetterman said. “That’s where the interesting answers are going to come from, my colleagues on the GOP that are going to vote, or justify voting, for that mess.”

“I was shocked at the nomination,” Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) told Punchbowl News. “This is why the Senate’s advise-and-consent process is so important. I’m sure that there will be many, many questions raised at Mr. Gaetz’s hearing.”

“Are you s—ting me?” Rep. Mike Simpson (R-Idaho) also told the Huffington Post when pressed for his reaction.

Gaetz resigned immediately from the House after Trump’s announcement, which reportedly came before a Friday vote on whether to release a House Ethics Committee report related to allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use involving the now-former congressman.

The resignation by the Florida Republican will end the investigation that started in April 2021, but the House Ethics Committee could still vote to release the report.
