Senator Josh Hawley Calls for DOJ Investigation into Anti-Israel ‘Dark Money’

Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has urged the Department of Justice to investigate the funding behind the recent antisemitic protests on college campuses.

The Republican senator sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, requesting a probe into the funding of these demonstrations.

Hawley stated that the protests are not merely student unrest but involve third-party funding. He referenced a previous letter he sent to Garland in October seeking information on funding for pro-terrorist student organizations.

In his letter, Hawley cited a Politico report revealing significant dark money supporting the campus protests. Groups like Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow were found to receive financial support from organizations such as George Soros’ Tides Foundation, David Rockefeller’s Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and Democrat donors Susan and Nick Pritzker.

Hawley expressed concern over the potential illegality of this funding and referenced IRS Revenue Ruling 75-384, which prohibits tax-exempt organizations from supporting protests involving acts of civil disobedience.

The senator called on the Justice Department to provide answers on the funding of anti-Israel protests and take steps to enforce IRS Revenue Ruling 75-384 against groups sponsoring violent protests at universities.
