Senator Lankford dismisses notion of reviving bipartisan border talks as not serious on Newsmax
According to Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., statements by Democrats claiming to revive negotiations on bipartisan proposals to address the chaos at the southern border are not genuine, as reported by Newsmax on Wednesday.
Lankford, one of the original negotiators of the bipartisan package earlier this year, stated on “Wake Up America” that there have been no discussions about addressing the issue seriously. He emphasized that the upcoming presidential election in November will likely resolve the issue.
He mentioned that President Joe Biden attempted to address various border security issues last year, but his lack of action led to a political stalemate. Lankford criticized Biden for not utilizing his executive authority to address the problem, causing frustration among Republicans.
When asked if Democrats reopening talks signifies a newfound realization of the seriousness of the issue, Lankford suggested that they are more concerned with the politics and chaos at the border rather than solving the problem.
The senator highlighted that Americans across the political spectrum are troubled by the border chaos, attributing it to Biden’s actions. He stated that the current situation is a crisis of Biden’s making, and his administration is now dealing with the consequences of his decisions.
