Senator Lankford Tells Newsmax: Democrats Want COVID Flexibility to Ensure Biden’s Ohio Ballot Placement

Concerns are rising that President Joe Biden may not appear on the ballot in Ohio less than six months before the presidential election.

According to Ohio law, presidential candidates must certify their nomination with the secretary of state’s office 90 days before an election.

This year, that deadline is Aug. 7, posing a challenge for the Democrat incumbent as the party’s nominating convention is set for Aug. 19.

Senator James Lankford, R-Okla., emphasized the importance of upholding election laws and the rule of law in an interview with Newsmax.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose outlined the steps necessary for Biden to be on the state’s ballot in November in a letter to Ohio Democratic Party Chair Liz Walters.

Walters confirmed receipt of the letter and the conflict with Ohio state law, pledging that the president will be on the ballot. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has called for a special legislative session to address the issue.

Alabama faced a similar situation earlier this month and passed legislation to ensure Biden’s appearance on the state’s November ballot, with bipartisan support.
