Senator Lankford Tells Newsmax that Democrats are Seeking COVID Flexibility to Ensure Biden’s Spot on Ohio Ballot

With less than six months remaining before the presidential election, there are concerns that President Joe Biden may not appear on the ballot in Ohio.

The Ohio law requires presidential candidates to certify their nomination with the secretary of state’s office 90 days before an election.

This year, the deadline falls on Aug. 7, which poses a challenge for Democratic incumbent Biden as the party’s nominating convention is scheduled for Aug. 19.

Senator James Lankford, R-Okla., emphasized the importance of upholding election laws and the rule of law to ensure integrity in the electoral process during an interview with Newsmax on Thursday.

In a letter to Ohio Democratic Party Chair Liz Walters, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose outlined the necessary steps for Biden to be included on the state’s ballot in November.

Walters’ office acknowledged the conflict with Ohio state law and assured that the president’s name would be on the ballot. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine called for a special legislative session to address the issue.

Alabama recently faced a similar situation with ensuring Biden’s appearance on the state’s ballot, passing legislation to accommodate this requirement.

The bipartisan effort in Alabama led to the approval of the legislation and the signing of the measure into law by Republican Governor Kay Ivey.
