Senator Marshall speaks to Newsmax about panel planning to question Mayorkas in a “mini impeachment trial”

Senate Republicans on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee are preparing to hold a “mini impeachment trial” when Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas appears before the panel Thursday, according to Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., in an interview with Newsmax.

Marshall made the statement on “Wake Up America” the morning after the Senate dismissed charges of illegal conduct against Mayorkas. The charges included failing to enforce immigration laws and lying to Congress.

Marshall mentioned that Mayorkas will be in front of the committee that day, providing another opportunity for a mini trial. He anticipated strong exchanges between Senators Rand Paul, Ron Johnson, Rick Scott, Josh Hawley, and himself, aiming to wrap up the trial in about an hour.

Expressing disappointment that there was no impeachment trial on the Senate floor, Marshall criticized senators who voted against holding the trial, particularly targeting senators from purple states like Jon Tester, D-Mont., and Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio.

Regarding Mayorkas’ remarks on CBS News about immigration policy, Marshall criticized the administration’s policies and suggested that the upcoming elections in November will be crucial in addressing the issues at hand.
