Senator Paul Calls for Investigation into Fauci’s Alleged Perjury
Senator Rand Paul has called for an investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), over allegations that he lied under oath about the origins of COVID-19 and funding for gain-of-function research. Paul sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves, demanding a probe into Fauci’s alleged perjury during a congressional hearing in 2021. The senator previously submitted a criminal referral to the Department of Justice (DOJ) in July 2021, but received no response. Paul accused Fauci of inconsistency, citing instances where he denied funding gain-of-function research publicly but acknowledged it in private discussions with colleagues. The senator referred to an email from Fauci in which he mentioned the Wuhan Institute of Virology and Wuhan University receiving NIH funding. Paul argued that Fauci’s contradictory statements and actions should be investigated given the potential implications for public health and the American people.
