Senator Rick Scott Accuses Biden of Ignoring ‘Hardworking Americans’
Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., criticized the latest inflation numbers and accused President Joe Biden of not caring about hardworking Americans.
Scott’s remarks followed the release of the most recent U.S. producer price index. The PPI report indicated a greater-than-expected increase in April, with notable rises in the costs of services and goods, pointing to ongoing elevated inflation in the early second quarter, as reported by Reuters.
The producer price index for final demand rose 0.5% last month after a decline of 0.1% in March, according to the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics on Tuesday.
Economists surveyed by Reuters had predicted a 0.3% increase in the PPI after a previous 0.2% uptick in March. Over the 12 months leading up to April, the PPI rose by 2.2% compared to a 1.8% increase in March.
“Today’s PPI inflation report is further evidence that President Joe Biden doesn’t care about hardworking Americans,” Scott stated in a press release. “Look at the current state of our country: PPI inflation has risen by 19.4% since Biden’s inauguration, more Americans are juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet, businesses are shutting down, and the American Dream is being replaced by reckless spending in Washington.
“This is the future Biden envisions for America. Under Biden’s leadership, Democrats have made their intentions clear – they want more government, more spending, more debt, higher taxes, and they are indifferent to the loss of freedom and opportunity for the American people. I was raised by my mom to believe that growing up in this country is a gift, where anything is achievable through hard work. We must safeguard this dream for our children. I will continue to fight against the tax-and-spend agenda of the Democrats to protect our American Dream before it is obliterated.”
Scott highlighted price hikes in the PPI report, such as a 21.7% increase in egg prices and an 18.3% rise in pork prices, over the year up to April.
