Senator Rick Scott: Supporting Trump, Despite Conviction
Senator Rick Scott, a Republican from Florida, stated that he will back Donald Trump as the Republican Party’s presidential nominee even if Trump is convicted of a crime.
“Absolutely,” Scott affirmed to reporters on Tuesday when asked if he would support Trump if found guilty. “I think any of our nominees will face scrutiny for something, so I stand behind Trump.”
When questioned about Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell not endorsing Trump and whether that was a mistake, Scott replied: “I have endorsed Trump. He will be our nominee and our next president. Everyone can make their own decisions. I want a leader who will secure the border. Trump will do it.
I want a leader who will improve the economy. Trump will do it. I want a leader who is against war. Look at what Biden has done. He has led us into two unnecessary wars because he is weak and an appeaser.”
McConnell, who has announced he will step down as Senate Minority Leader at the end of the year, is reportedly willing to “overlook a lot” to enhance the path to the majority, including endorsing Trump, as per a GOP colleague told the Hill.
“That could be the reason why Mitch would prioritize politics over principle and do what is politically advantageous… he is determined to gain the majority and is willing to make personal sacrifices for that,” the GOP colleague stated.
Trump is currently facing four criminal indictments in four different cities as he campaigns to reclaim the presidency. These cases include a total of 91 felony charges and are progressing through the legal system at varying speeds.
