Senator Ron Johnson tells Newsmax that Schumer’s action is indefensible
Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for ignoring his constitutional duty and dismissing the House impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, during an interview with Newsmax on Tuesday.
Johnson, along with Representative Andy Biggs of Arizona, appeared on “Rob Schmitt Tonight” to condemn what they see as Schumer’s plan to dismiss the impeachment articles against Mayorkas.
“We are urging him to hold a trial,” Johnson told Schmitt. “The House managers should be allowed to present their case so the Senate can review the evidence. It would be unprecedented for Schumer to simply dismiss or table the impeachment without a trial. We have a constitutional obligation to consider an impeachment brought by the House.”
Schumer has characterized the impeachment as a response to policy disagreements, but Johnson and Biggs argue that Mayorkas’ actions have jeopardized national security.
“Secretary Mayorkas engaged in willful misconduct,” Johnson stated. “The Biden administration’s open border policies led to a surge of migrants, putting Americans at risk.”
Biggs criticized Schumer for trying to obstruct the impeachment process, calling it “outrageous misconduct” and insisting that it is unconstitutional.
