Senator Rubio accuses critics of NFL’s Butker of being dishonest.
Senator Marco Rubio, from Florida, addressed criticism towards Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker for his recent college graduation speech, clarifying that accusations of Butker telling women to stay home and have babies are false.
Rubio stated in a social media post that Butker did not advise women to stay home and have babies. Instead, Butker highlighted the importance of the roles of husbands, wives, fathers, and mothers in both professional careers and personal lives.
During his speech at Benedictine College, Butker stirred controversy for his traditional Catholic views, suggesting that female graduates prioritize marriage and having children over career aspirations.
He praised his wife’s choice to prioritize her role as a wife and mother over a career and voiced views on Pride Month, diversity initiatives, and the importance of God-centered pride.
Rubio did not address Butker’s other statements, and the NFL clarified that Butker’s views were expressed in a personal capacity, not reflecting the league’s stance on inclusion.
