Senator Warner Warns Newsmax of Worsening Threat Posed by TikTok
Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., disclosed on Newsmax that TikTok has been actively lobbying to prevent the upcoming ban of its app in the U.S.
Warner mentioned that a year ago, TikTok spent $100 million on advertising and lobbying to counter the ban efforts, and the situation has only worsened since then.
He highlighted the recent overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress for considering TikTok a national security threat.
Warner, as the Senate Intelligence Committee chair, expressed concerns about TikTok’s data collection and the potential influence of the Chinese Communist Party.
He also pointed out the risk of TikTok manipulating user preferences and spreading false information, posing a significant national security threat.
Warner proposed transferring ownership of TikTok to a different group of investors to mitigate security concerns.
He emphasized the need for a thorough legal process for the ownership transfer and pointed out the actions taken by other countries to restrict TikTok’s use.
Regarding China’s reaction to the House vote, Warner highlighted the CCP’s restrictions on social media platforms and contrasted the content available on TikTok within China and internationally.
