Senators Urge Investigation into Formula One Following Andretti Denial
A group of senators are calling for an investigation into Formula One after it denied Michael Andretti’s application to join with a new team, as reported by The Hill.
Senators led by Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., suspect that F1 may be violating antitrust laws by excluding Andretti. Michigan Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow have also joined the call for an investigation, citing General Motors’ involvement with Andretti Global, according to The Hill.
Andretti-Cadillac fulfilled all requirements to join F1 but were still denied entry, raising concerns of possible collusion among F1 members and sponsors to maintain a competitive advantage, the senators stated.
While F1 claimed that Andretti’s team would not add value to their championship, the senators argued that it would in fact enhance competitiveness in the racing circuit.
The senators have also written to Liberty Media, F1’s owner, seeking answers regarding the exclusion of Andretti Global, as reported by The Hill.
