Sinead O’Connor’s Estate Requests Donald Trump to Cease Playing Her Music at Rallies
The estate of Sinead O’Connor on Monday asked Donald Trump not to play her music at campaign rallies, stating that the late singer regarded the former president as a “biblical devil.”
Despite this, Trump has been using O’Connor’s hit song, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” at his events while campaigning for the Republican presidential nomination.
In a joint statement, O’Connor’s estate and her record label, Chrysalis, demanded that Trump “immediately cease using her music.”
They emphasized that O’Connor, who passed away last year at the age of 56, lived by a strong moral code centered on honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards others.
The statement expressed outrage over Trump’s use of O’Connor’s music, stating that she would have been appalled, hurt, and insulted to have her work misused in such a manner by someone she referred to as a ‘biblical devil.’ As the custodians of her legacy, they insisted that Trump and his team stop using her music right away.
O’Connor, known for her fiery and outspoken nature, was a vocal critic of the Roman Catholic Church well before widespread reports of sexual abuse emerged, and was candid about her mental health challenges.
She was found unresponsive at her home in London in July and was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner determined that she died of natural causes.
O’Connor now joins a growing list of artists who have objected to Trump using their music at his events, including Rihanna, Neil Young, Linkin Park, the late Tom Petty, and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
