Social Media Criticizes Stormy Daniels for Inconsistent Statements about Trump
Stormy Daniels, an adult film star, faced criticism from social media users following her testimony in Donald Trump’s New York criminal trial which contradicted statements she signed over six years ago.
Daniels testified in court on Tuesday about a sexual encounter she alleges occurred with Trump in 2006. She claimed to have been paid to remain silent during the presidential campaign a decade later.
However, a Twitter user named Bo Loudon shared two statements from January 2018, both signed by Daniels, in which she denied any sexual encounter with Trump.
In a statement dated Jan. 10, 2018, Daniels reportedly said, “I recently became aware that certain news outlets are alleging that I had a sexual and/or romantic affair with Donald Trump many, many, many years ago. I am stating with complete clarity that this is absolutely false.”
She continued, “Rumors that I have received hush money from Donald Trump are completely false. If indeed I did have a relationship with Donald Trump, trust me, you wouldn’t be reading about it in the news, you would be reading about it in my book.”
On Jan. 30, 2018, Daniels signed another statement denying the existence of the alleged affair, stating, “I am denying this affair because it never happened.”
Daniels later admitted that these statements were false and that she signed them out of fear of legal consequences, as reported by The Washington Post.
After her testimony, social media users criticized Daniels.
“They will do anything to get Trump in jail,” wrote user Alex Barnicoat on Twitter.
“These letters are relevant. This case isn’t about her. This is about election interference. Stormy is just a witness,” stated Ryan Winnett on Twitter.
“She has sex on camera for a living. She now gets up and acts like a virgin! New low, even for Democrats!” criticized Patty Riggs on Twitter.
