Some Republicans support Trump in hopes of his demise, says Psaki
Current MSNBC host Jen Psaki, who served as former White House press secretary, suggested that some Republicans continue to support former President Donald Trump because they are hoping that he will no longer be a factor due to reasons like death or imprisonment.
Psaki made these remarks during an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program while promoting her new book, “Inside with Jen Psaki.” She believes that there is a segment of Republicans who back Trump because they anticipate that he will eventually fade away.
She mentioned, “I think many of them want to be close to power. They also assume or have this thought in their mind that, ‘Maybe Donald Trump will go away.’ Maybe he’ll go to jail. Maybe he will die. Not to be too morbid, but maybe, I mean, he’s not a young man. Who knows what’s in their minds? They think, ‘Maybe I will be behind the Oval Office.’”
Psaki also criticized other Trump supporters like Bill Barr, Sen. Mitch McConnell, and Sen. Tim Scott, whom she labeled as “cringy” and “embarrassing.”
The conversation initially commended former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, who declared that he will vote for President Joe Biden over Trump in the upcoming election.
Psaki emphasized, “There needs to be more Geoff Duncans out there.”
