Speaker Johnson Observes Trump’s New York Trial
House Speaker Mike Johnson is scheduled to be in New York City on Tuesday to attend former President Donald Trump’s trial. He joins a growing list of Republicans showing their support for the presumptive GOP presidential nominee amidst ongoing testimony from his former attorney.
In a statement, Johnson’s office announced his plans to attend the hearing and later address the media outside the “sham prosecution of President Trump.”
The statement further emphasized Johnson’s opposition to the “political persecution” of the former president by President Biden’s Department of Justice and the left-wing Manhattan district attorney.
Trump senior advisor Jason Miller disclosed that North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, Rep. Byron Donalds, Rep. Cory Mills, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who previously competed against Trump in the GOP primary, will also be present at Tuesday’s proceedings.
Several other potential Trump running mates, including Sen. J.D. Vance, Sen. Tim Scott, Sen. Tommy Tuberville, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, and Sen. Rick Scott, have also shown their support by attending the trial.
Despite a gag order imposed on Trump, the Republican lawmakers attending the hearings have been vocal about their concerns regarding the judge’s credibility and the testimony of witnesses like Stormy Daniels and Michael Cohen.
