Speaker Johnson Pays a Visit to Trump at Mar-a-Lago, GOP ‘Stays United’
House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., had a meeting with Donald Trump on Monday at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida to discuss plans for the upcoming general election in November.
“It was a great meeting with President Trump today at Mar-a-Lago,” Johnson shared on X, along with a photo of both of them giving a thumbs-up. “Our Party is united and working together. I am confident that we will see President Trump back in the White House, regain control of the Senate, and expand our House Republican majority!”
Johnson’s last visit to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump was in April, when he faced a motion to vacate resolution from Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene, R-Ga., after relying on Democrats to pass a $1.2 trillion spending bill in March to prevent a partial government shutdown. Following their meeting, Trump expressed his support for Johnson, and Greene’s motion was later tabled by the House with a 359-43 vote in early May.
Trump and Johnson also met on Thursday, when the former president returned to Capitol Hill for the first time since Jan. 6, 2021, and addressed House and Senate Republicans.
“We need to plan and take the lead as there are numerous issues to address,” Johnson stated at a news conference after the meeting. “We are currently working on that. I had extensive discussions with President Trump about post-election plans, which we must fulfill as our responsibility.
“He is enthusiastic, and we are equally excited. We are confident that this will come to fruition. It’s a promising working relationship.”
