Speaker Johnson speaks to Newsmax about the release of 13,000 hours of Jan. 6 tapes
According to Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., 13,000 hours of the Jan. 6 tapes have been released so far. He mentioned that new staff was hired to support the “24-hour operation.”
Johnson shared on “Eric Bolling The Balance” that the tapes equal about five years’ worth of video footage.
“We’re releasing them in large batches, with 13,000 of the 40,000 hours already out there,” Johnson told Bolling. “It takes time to upload and process them all. When you do the math, it’s five years’ worth of videotape.”
In November, Johnson announced the release of all 44,000 hours of video from the Capitol Hill riots on Jan. 6, 2021. This decision followed former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., choosing not to release them publicly.
“I made a commitment right after I became Speaker that we would begin releasing the footage. Initially, we were blurring faces to protect innocent individuals, but we realized much of the content was already public,” Johnson explained. “We’re working quickly to release the tapes as we brought in new staff for the ongoing 24-hour operation.”
