Special Counsel Hur to Testify After Questioning Biden’s Cognitive Abilities

Special counsel Robert Hur will address the public for the first time on Tuesday, speaking to the House Judiciary Committee at 10 a.m. ET. Hur was at the center of controversy last month with a report stating that President Joe Biden had a “poor memory.”

This comes in the aftermath of Biden’s impassioned State of the Union address, marking the beginning of his reelection campaign against former President Donald Trump. Hur’s report indicated no charges would be brought against Biden for retaining classified documents, but it drew criticism from the White House for its portrayal of Biden.

The report described Biden as an “elderly man with a poor memory,” prompting Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to refute the claim as politically motivated. The ongoing investigation into Biden contrasts with Trump’s own legal challenges, including mishandling classified documents.

While Trump accuses the Justice Department of bias, Hur noted Biden’s cooperation in the probe, leading to his appointment as special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland. House Republicans have requested additional documents related to the investigation, alleging improper financial gain by Biden and his family, which the White House denies.

The spotlight now shifts to a public hearing with Hunter Biden invited to testify on March 20, though his participation remains uncertain.
