Stephen Miller Tells Newsmax: Biden Campaign Made Mistake in Debates Strategy
Former senior adviser in the Trump administration, Stephen Miller, said that President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign made a mistake by challenging Donald Trump to two debates, assuming that Trump would not accept their terms. However, Trump agreed to debate Biden on June 27 on CNN and Sept. 10 on ABC, even agreeing to some of Biden’s demands, such as no audience, no involvement of the Commission on Presidential Debates, no third-party candidate, and the moderator having the ability to cut off Trump’s microphone if he interrupts Biden out of turn.
Miller, now president of America First Legal, spoke to Newsmax and expressed that Trump was willing to debate anytime and anywhere because he is confident in his ability to outperform Biden.
After weeks of pressure, the Biden campaign eventually agreed to debate Trump on CNN and ABC, but only on their terms. Miller noted that Biden’s camp wanted Trump to concede to their demands because they see Biden as a frail and terrified individual.
The decision to have early debate dates was strategic on Biden’s part, according to Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight, who suggested that Biden wanted to avoid looking like he was ducking debates while also not being confident in winning. However, Miller believes that this strategy plays into Trump’s hands, as Trump accepted the debates and then asked for even more, putting pressure on Biden to keep up.
Ultimately, Trump’s willingness to debate at any time and place showcases his confidence and contrasts with Biden’s perceived weakness and fear. This revelation, Miller believes, will be significant for the American people.
