Steve Bannon has admitted guilt to a fraud charge linked to deceiving contributors who donated to a private initiative aimed at constructing a wall along the U.S. southern border, as part of efforts to address the migrant situation.

On Tuesday, Bannon pled guilty to one count of scheme to defraud and has been sentenced to three years of conditional discharge. He won’t face jail time under a plea deal, provided he maintains good behavior.

The terms of the plea deal stipulate that Bannon is barred from raising funds for or acting as “an officer, director, or in any other fiduciary position” for any nonprofit with assets in New York state.

Additionally, Bannon is prohibited from using, selling, or retaining any information obtained from donors to the “We Build the Wall” initiative.

When approached by reporters regarding his feelings about the plea, Bannon remarked, “like a million bucks.”

In 2022, Bannon had pleaded not guilty to a state court indictment that accused him of money laundering, fraud, and conspiracy concerning the scheme.

Bannon was alleged to have misled donors into believing that all contributions to the “We Build the Wall” campaign would be utilized for constructing a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Prosecutors claimed that instead, the funds were diverted to benefit Bannon and others involved.

Following Trump’s pardon of Bannon in the closing hours of his first term in 2021, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D-N.Y.) charged him in state court with the same allegations.
