Steve Scalise Attributes Cancer Recovery to God and Prayers
House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., attributes his recovery from blood cancer to God and his Catholic faith.
Scalise returned to Congress after completing treatment for multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer. He underwent chemotherapy for four months and was isolated for six weeks due to a stem-cell transplant.
Speaking on “EWTN News Nightly“, Scalise expressed gratitude to those who prayed and supported him during his treatment.
He emphasized the role of faith in his recovery, stating, “God gives you the strength to get through it. He puts people around you — doctors, friends, and others in your life — who can help you. Recognize the signals and tools God provides and use them.”
Scalise revealed that his cancer is now in remission, attributing the success of his treatment to early detection and effective therapies.
In 2017, Scalise survived a shooting by a progressive activist, which also tested his faith. He acknowledged the miracles that occurred that day and how the experience strengthened his beliefs.
“It also put a different focus on what is really important in life,” he said. “I’ve got to put this in God’s hands.”
