Super PAC supporting House Democrats proposes $100 million push for abortion rights

The House Majority PAC is launching a $100 million fund to support Democrats’ efforts to regain control of the House. The fund will focus on a nationwide abortion rights outreach campaign in swing districts to shift attention away from President Joe Biden’s low poll numbers and voter concerns about the border and immigration, as reported by The Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.

The Reproductive Freedom Accountability Fund will be used for advertising and voter mobilization in swing districts and districts without competitive Senate or presidential races.

The House Majority PAC President, Mike Smith, stated that reproductive freedoms will be a defining campaign message in the 2024 cycle. The fund will consist of existing funds and additional contributions.

Both the House Majority PAC and the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports House Republicans, have reserved significant amounts for advertising in the upcoming election cycle.

A recent poll found that abortion is a key issue for suburban women in battleground states, with a majority supporting legal access to abortion. Many women cited abortion as a reason to vote for President Biden over former President Trump, who is viewed as restrictive on the issue.

As abortion rights groups push for state-level initiatives following the Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe v. Wade, strategists believe this issue will drive voter turnout in swing states like Nevada and Arizona.
