Supporters of Trump Prepare for Immediate Immigration Crackdown

Allies of former President Donald Trump, which include individuals who served in his administration, supporters, and immigration experts, are reportedly in the process of creating plans for a day-one crackdown on immigration. This includes preparations for fulfilling his promise of mass deportation of millions of immigrants, according to sources directly involved in these efforts.

The individuals involved have informed The Wall Street Journal that the objective is to be prepared to reduce the influx of migrants into the country, reverse President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, and develop deportation plans that Trump claims will be the largest operation of its kind in the history of the nation.

Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, senior advisers for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, have publicly refuted the claims made by these sources, accusing the media of relying too heavily on “anonymous sourcing and speculation” regarding the possibility of another Trump administration.

They stated, “Unless a message comes directly from President Trump or an authorized member of his campaign team, no aspect of future presidential staffing or policy announcements should be considered official.”

However, senior officials within the external groups anticipate that some of their plans will be implemented if Trump is re-elected, striving to avoid the disruptions that occurred in 2016 when Trump dismissed former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, the head of his transition team, and discarded the plans devised by Christie’s team.

The plans are said to include discussions on expediting asylum hearings, compelling other nations to repatriate a greater number of individuals who would be sent back to their home countries, and revoking deportation protections instated during Biden’s presidency.

Individuals involved in the effort have stated that external advisers are identifying potential partner countries in South America like Panama and locations in Africa that could engage in new asylum agreements, similar to the one negotiated by the Trump administration in 2020 with Guatemala, allowing migrants from El Salvador and Honduras to seek asylum in that neighboring country.

These advisers are also strategizing ways to bypass legal constraints, without necessitating legislation from Congress, to deport immigrants who entered the country during Biden’s presidency. Presently, these individuals cannot legally be deported, and their home countries are unwilling to accept their return.

There are also uncertainties about who will spearhead Trump’s immigration initiatives. Stephen Miller, who played a significant role in shaping Trump’s immigration policies during his first term, is anticipated to return to the administration.

Additionally, other Trump advisers are contemplating the appointment of former Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan as a “border czar,” a position that does not require Senate confirmation, or as the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.

Other individuals being considered for senior roles include former acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf; Mark Morgan, who previously served as commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol; and Joe Edlow, who acted as the acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Homan has expressed his willingness to consider a position within the administration, aligning with Trump’s perspective that a “historic deportation operation” is essential.

The America First Policy Institute and the Heritage Foundation are reportedly engaged in discussions regarding Trump’s immigration agenda. These conversations also involve Trump campaign officials and the former president, as per sources cited by The Wall Street Journal.

Rob Law, the director for homeland security and immigration at the America First Policy Institute, confirmed the organization’s involvement, whereas a Heritage Foundation spokeswoman did not respond to requests for comment from the publication.
