Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett spoke at a judicial conference in Wisconsin and said she welcomed public scrutiny of the court but did not comment on whether the court should change its operations in response to recent criticism. Barrett also did not express an opinion on calls for the justices to establish an official code of conduct. She did mention that the immediacy and amount of information available have led to increased scrutiny of the Supreme Court. Barrett acknowledged that public criticism comes with the job but stated that justices should not be recognizable in public. During the conference, Barrett discussed both the positive and negative aspects of the court being in the news so frequently. Other justices, including Elena Kagan, have expressed support for an ethics code for the Supreme Court, while Samuel Alito has argued against Congress imposing ethics rules on the court. The conference was held for the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which covers Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana.
