Survey: Majority of Texas Voters Anticipate Violence After Election

A recent poll from The Texas Politics Project at the University of Texas revealed that 60% of Texas voters believe there will be political violence in response to the 2024 election results.

Of those surveyed, approximately 24% said political violence is “very likely,” while 36% found it “somewhat likely.” Meanwhile, only 21% said violence was “not too likely,” and 5% said it was “not at all likely,” with 14% remaining unsure.

Jim Henson and Joshua Blank, the authors of the summary, noted that “dark attitudes from the 2020 election and violent reactions to its outcome among Trump supporters continue to lurk in Texas public opinion.”

Comparatively, a national CBS News poll from January found that 49% of respondents believe there will be violence over election losses.

The topic of election violence has become increasingly prevalent in present-day America, especially following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack at the U.S. Capitol building. This concern is likely to persist, especially as former President Donald Trump, currently the subject of four criminal indictments, is reportedly considering a third run for the White House.

The poll, conducted from Feb. 2-12, 2024, surveyed 1,200 self-declared registered voters in Texas and has a margin of error of +/- 2.83 percent.
