The individual dubbed the “Southport killer,” who brutally took the lives of three young girls and aimed to harm ten more, reportedly stated during his initial police interrogation that he was “so glad those kids are dead.”

Axel Rudakubana, 18, began to shout that he “felt unwell” before the judge instructed that he be removed from the reinforced dock.

Shortly thereafter, Rudakubana allegedly cried out: “My chest hurts … I need to see a paramedic,” followed by an escalating plea of “Don’t continue! Don’t continue! Don’t continue!”

During his sentencing at Liverpool Crown Court, around 40 family members of the victims filled the courtroom. As Rudakubana was taken from the dock, the public gallery erupted with shouts of “coward!”

On the eve of his trial, he pleaded guilty to the murders of Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice da Silva Aguiar, 9.

He also admitted to producing the deadly substance “ricin,” possessing a terrorist publication (an al-Qaida training manual), and attempting to kill “eight additional children and two adults.”

Moreover, before the al-Qaida handbook was found, British media had initially reported that Rudakubana’s family practiced Christianity.

CCTV footage presented in court revealed that on July 29th, 2024,  26 young girls were gathered at a “Taylor Swift-themed” dance and yoga workshop making bracelets when Rudakubana unexpectedly appeared in the doorway wielding a “20cm knife” — at approximately 11:45 a.m.

Prosecutor Deanna Heer stated that two of Rudakubana’s victims sustained “particularly horrific injuries that the prosecution argues are more difficult to explain than anything other than sadistic in nature.”

Body cam footage from the police depicted the gruesome and chaotic scene as officers entered the establishment. Rudakubana was discovered “crouched” over the body of one of the little girls, having allegedly stabbed one of them “122 times,” according to authorities.

Heer remarked that upon his arrest, Rudakubana was taken to a police station where he was shockingly heard whispering, “I’m so glad those kids are dead … it makes me happy.”

This was among several “unsolicited comments” captured on CCTV, with notes taken at the time. Rudakubana was also heard saying, “So happy, six-years-old. It’s a good thing they are dead…yeah,” and “I don’t care, I’m feeling neutral.”

He has been sentenced to a minimum of 52 years in prison.

Authorities report that the disturbed 18-year-old was born in Cardiff, Wales, though both of his parents hail from Rwanda — migrating to the UK in search of asylum. After relocating to the UK, Rudakubana’s family eventually settled in the Southport area in 2013.
