Texas Attorney General Paxton Makes Court Appearance for Fraud Trial
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is set to appear in a Houston courtroom on Thursday to discuss the delayed trial on securities fraud charges he has faced for nearly a decade. The court hearing will determine when Paxton’s trial might finally proceed, although it is unclear if any decision will be made during the hearing. The case was moved to Houston after a judge upheld a decision to move the proceedings out of Paxton’s hometown near Dallas. Paxton has fought to keep the trial in Collin County, where he has significant support among GOP activists. Paxton’s appearance at the hearing is expected, as he has rarely appeared in court for the securities fraud case. If convicted, Paxton faces up to 99 years in prison. This hearing comes as Paxton also faces removal from office following his impeachment by the Texas House in May. A trial in the Texas Senate is scheduled to begin on September 5. The impeachment charges against Paxton also involve his relationship with an indicted real estate developer.
