Texas Attorney General Paxton Sues Biden Administration Over Title IX Revision

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration on Monday for expanding federal sex discrimination protections under Title IX to include LGBT students.

Earlier this month, the Biden administration updated the definition of sex to include transgender individuals with the release of new Title IX rules.

The updated rules focus on sexual harassment and discrimination under Title IX, offering increased protections for LGBTQ+ and pregnant students while revising guidance on how schools should address sexual assault cases, as reported by CNN.

In a statement, Paxton expressed Texas’ opposition to the Biden administration’s attempt to rewrite Title IX laws to align with gender ideology, calling it illegal, undemocratic, and divorced from reality.

Title IX was established to prevent sex-based discrimination in educational programs that receive federal funding, including K-12 schools, colleges, and universities.

Paxton, along with other state Republican leaders, disagree with the administration’s changes to Title IX, arguing that they compromise protections for women by forcing schools to accommodate transgender individuals in single-sex spaces.

Texas believes the updates to Title IX violate federal law, disregard the Constitution, and undermine the intended protections for women.

America First Legal joined Paxton in filing the lawsuit against the U.S. government, Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona, and two other department officials.
