Texas Governor Abbott Seeks Reimbursement for Border Security Efforts – One America News Network

The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, has urged Congress to provide reimbursement for expenditures related to border security.

In a letter dispatched on Thursday, Abbott (R-Texas) formally asked House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), and John Thune (R-S.D.) for reimbursement of the $11.1 billion spent by Texas to secure the border.
He remarked that the border policies implemented by President Biden have rendered Texas vulnerable to an influx of criminals and gangs.
“President Biden’s policies have left Texas and the entire nation exposed to an unprecedented influx of violent criminals, terrorists, and hostile foreign entities such as the dangerous Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua,” the letter states. “I initiated Operation Lone Star (OLS) to combat these threats to the safety of Americans. Over the past four years, OLS has successfully decreased illegal immigration into Texas by 87%, highlighted the continued effectiveness of President Donald Trump’s border strategies, and emphasized the national crisis at hand. In total, Texas has invested over $11.1 billion to safeguard the nation and secure the border. Therefore, I am officially requesting full reimbursement from the federal government for these expenditures.”
This request follows Abbott’s launch of Operation Lone Star, which has achieved an 87% reduction in illegal immigration in Texas over the last four years.
