Texas State House Primary Race won by Former Trump Spokesperson
Katrina Pierson, a former Trump 2016 national campaign spokesperson, emerged victorious in her primary runoff race against incumbent Texas state Rep. Justin Holland on Tuesday, as reported by The Hill.
Holland became a target among Republican incumbents for his lack of support for GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and GOP Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
One of the reasons for Holland’s targeted opposition was his vote to impeach Paxton, support for raising the age for purchasing semi-automatic rifles, and opposition to Abbott’s school voucher program.
Holland has been representing his district in the Dallas suburbs since 2017.
Support from Abbott and endorsement from Paxton helped Pierson secure her victory. Abbott even campaigned alongside her leading up to the election.
Both state officials, Abbott and Paxton, congratulated Pierson for her win over Holland.
“Congratulations to @KatrinaPierson on an incredible VICTORY in her Republican Primary Runoff in House District 33! #txlege,” Abbott’s campaign account posted.
“Congratulations to @KatrinaPierson for DEFEATING Austin RINO Justin Holland,” Paxton’s personal account wrote. “You have sent a strong message to Austin that if members continue to prioritize Democrats over our Conservative Agenda they will not return in 2026.”
Severe thunderstorms early in the day on Tuesday caused over 100 polling places in Dallas, Kaufman, Ellis, and Tarrant counties to lose power, as reported by the Associated Press here.
Judges in Dallas and Kaufman counties extended voting hours due to the power outages to ensure voters had sufficient time to cast their ballots.
Holland’s office was contacted by Newsmax for a comment but did not respond.
