Texas Takes Legal Action Against NCAA Over Transgender Participation in Women’s Sports – One America News Network

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton initiated legal action against the NCAA on Sunday, accusing the collegiate body of misleading marketing practices regarding the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports.

Paxton (R-Texas) stated in a news release that the NCAA has breached the Texas Trade Practices Act, designed to safeguard consumers from businesses that mislead or deceive them regarding the purchasing of goods or services that are misrepresented.
He claimed the NCAA has been “participating in false, deceptive, and misleading practices by promoting sporting events as ‘women’s’ competitions only to then provide consumers with mixed sex events where biological males compete against biological females.”
“The NCAA is deliberately compromising the safety and well-being of women by deceptively redefining women’s events as co-ed competitions,” Paxton asserted in a statement. “When spectators watch a women’s volleyball match, for instance, they anticipate seeing women competing against other women—not biological males impersonating something they are not. Extreme ‘gender theory’ has no place in college athletics.”
Paxton is requesting a court to issue a permanent injunction barring the NCAA from permitting transgender athletes in women’s sports in Texas or “involving Texas teams, or alternately requiring the NCAA to cease advertising events as ‘women’s’ when they are actually mixed sex competitions,” according to the news release.
The NCAA has responded to the lawsuit.
“College sports represent the pinnacle of women’s athletics in America. While the NCAA does not comment on ongoing litigation, the Association and its members will continue their efforts to promote Title IX, invest significantly in women’s sports, and maintain fair competition across all NCAA championships,” the organization stated.
NCAA President Charlie Baker addressed questions around transgender athlete participation during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” last week.
When McAfee inquired how parents of daughters should feel regarding trans athletes in women’s sports and the NCAA’s stance on the issue, Baker minimized the situation.
“There are 510,000 college athletes competing in the NCAA, with less than 10 being transgender athletes, so it’s a very small group,” Baker remarked.
