The House Oversight Committee Launches Investigation into Pro-Palestinian Student Organization
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., wrote a letter to the National Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) asking for clarification on how pro-Hamas propaganda and illegal activities appeared on college campuses this spring.
Recent massive protests have impacted numerous college campuses, resulting in over 3,000 arrests since April 18. More than 400 colleges have witnessed demonstrations.
Comer, Chair of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, expressed concerns about potential funding or support from foreign or domestic sources for organizations promoting pro-Hamas propaganda at universities.
The letter was directed to Dr. Osama Abuirshaid, Executive Director of American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), an organization that claims to assist over two hundred “Palestinian solidarity organizations” in the U.S. and Canada.
Referencing the Anti-Defamation League, Comer’s letter highlighted the AMP’s connection to the Islamic Association of Palestine, previously linked to Hamas propaganda.
The Committee is requesting all documents related to SJP’s funding and correspondence concerning the Oct. 7 attacks by Hamas in Israel, setting a deadline of June 12 for the submission of these documents.
