On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin asserted that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine would not have occurred had the 2020 U.S. presidential election not been “stolen” from President Donald Trump.

“I must concur that if he had been president, if his victory had not been taken from him in 2020, then perhaps the crisis in Ukraine that emerged in 2022 would not have happened,” Putin remarked.

“He is not only intelligent but also pragmatic,” Putin continued, discussing Trump. “Regarding negotiations… we have always stated, and I wish to stress this again, that we are ready for these negotiations concerning Ukrainian matters.”

The nearly three-year war, which has been supported by the Biden administration along with other Western allies, has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of individuals.

Putin’s remarks follow President Trump’s vocal calls for peace negotiations between the two conflicting nations.

“Settle now, and END this absurd war! IT’S ONLY GOING TO ESCALATE. If we don’t make a ‘deal’ soon, I will have no alternative but to impose high Taxes, Tariffs, and Sanctions on all goods sold from Russia to the United States, and other participating countries,” Trump stated in a recent post on Truth Social.

“Let’s conclude this war, which would never have occurred if I were President, swiftly! We can do it the easy way or the hard way – and the easy way is always preferable. It’s time to ‘MAKE A DEAL’,” Trump further added.

Meanwhile, at least outwardly, Zelenskyy seems optimistic that a peace agreement could be achieved under a new Trump administration.

“It is clear that the war will conclude sooner with the policies of the upcoming team in the White House. This aligns with their approach and their promise to citizens,” Zelensky asserted, emphasizing that Ukraine “must do everything to ensure that this war concludes [this] year, through diplomatic efforts.”

Previous peace negotiations were reportedly obstructed by the Biden administration and its Western allies, as claimed by Russia’s former Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev.

“Had it not been for the U.S. pressing those they had placed in power in Ukraine, this situation would not have arisen; even the Ukrainian leaders themselves were prepared to sign a peace treaty and had presented Russia with proposals that we, in principle, accepted,” Patrushev stated at the outset of the conflict in 2022.

It was reported that both sides reached a tentative agreement framework at the end of 2022 in Istanbul, Turkey, which prompted then-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to visit Kyiv on behalf of the Biden administration, demanding that Zelenskyy cease all negotiations.

“This occurred solely because the United States had exerted pressure on them and insisted that no negotiations should take place,” Patrushev concluded.
