Thomas More Society Promises to Appeal Following Lauren Handy’s Conviction
Pro-life advocate Lauren Handy has been found guilty by a federal court for illegally blockading a Washington, D.C., abortion facility in October 2020. Handy and four co-defendants were convicted of felony federal civil rights conspiracy and Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act offenses. The Thomas More Society, representing Handy, decried the verdict as biased and plans to appeal. Prosecutors alleged that Handy orchestrated the blockade and police later found five fetuses in the basement of the house where Handy was staying. Handy and her co-defendants face up to 11 years in prison, supervised release, and a fine. The other four defendants will go on trial next week.
