According to a statement from the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, the incident took place in the Platte River on Friday evening.
The remains of the three passengers have been recovered from the wreckage; however, their identities have not been disclosed to the public yet.
Officials indicated that the investigation will be led by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
NTSB spokesperson Jennifer Gabris announced that an investigator is anticipated to arrive at the crash site later today.
“Once on site, the investigator will commence the process of documenting the scene and inspecting the aircraft,” said Gabris. “The aircraft will then be removed to a secure location for further analysis.”
She also emphasized that during the preliminary phase of the inquiry, “the NTSB refrains from determining or speculating on the cause of the accident.” A preliminary report is expected to be released within 30 days.
An FAA representative also acknowledged the incident in an email, confirming that the NTSB will take the lead on the investigation.
This crash adds to a concerning string of aviation accidents involving small aircraft and helicopters.
Last month, a single-engine plane collided with a residence in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, resulting in the pilot’s death and igniting a fire.
On April 10th, a sightseeing helicopter tragically went down in the Hudson River near New York City, claiming the lives of the pilot and a family of five. Just a day later, another small plane crashed in Boca Raton, Florida, leaving all three passengers dead.
