TikTok Trend Causes School to Remove Bathroom Mirrors

A school in North Carolina has struggled with kids making TikTok videos during class, so instead of taking away cell phones, it decided to take away bathroom mirrors.

Administrators realized they cannot stop a student from going to the bathroom, but perhaps they could take away the mirrors.

“Students were going to the bathroom for long periods of time and making TikTok videos,” Southern Alamance Middle School spokesman Les Atkins told WMFY News 2 this week.

The hope in removing the mirrors is it would reduce the “distraction” of bathroom Tiktok videos during classes, as the school had seen students visiting the bathrooms up to nine times a day instead of the more regular three or four times, according to the report.

Atkins said the proverbial smoke-and-mirrors move made “a great difference” because there are now not “as many visits to the bathroom, not staying as long, and students are held accountable.”

Cell phones in school remain a necessary part of school kids lives, according to Atkins, who says his district is turning the focus on “accountability.”

“We’re trying to educate students – like we all have cell phones now,” he continued. “We have to learn to use them. We have to learn when to put them down.”
