Tom Cotton declares Chuck Schumer’s interference with Israel as “inappropriate and offensive.”
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has called for Israel to hold a new election to oust Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a move that Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark., criticized as “inappropriate and offensive.”
“Chuck Schumer’s demand for new Israeli elections is inappropriate and offensive,” Cotton stated Thursday. “Israel is a close ally and a vibrant democracy. The last thing Israel needs is foreign interference in their elections, something Democrats often condemn.”
Cotton continued to express that calling for the removal of an Israeli leader reflects poorly on the Democratic Party.
“Furthermore, Schumer’s focus should be on our elections, as the rampant antisemitism within the Democratic Party is greatly unpopular among pro-Israel Americans,” Cotton added.
“Chuck Schumer should address the issues within his own party before criticizing Israel.”
Senator Cotton’s statement was in response to Schumer’s lengthy speech on the Senate floor where he strongly criticized Netanyahu for aligning with far-right extremists and tolerating civilian casualties in Gaza, which has negatively impacted support for Israel globally.
“Israel cannot afford to become isolated,” Schumer emphasized.
