On Wednesday, Ben Christman, age 21, was found dead in his off-campus residence, as confirmed by the university in an official statement.

The university stated that, at this moment, they lack further details regarding the circumstances of his death, including the cause. The Clark County Coroner’s Office in Nevada is currently looking into the matter.

“Our hearts are shattered by the news of Ben’s passing,” expressed UNLV head coach Dan Mullen in a statement. “Since he arrived on our campus a month ago, Ben has made the Rebels a better team. He was a natural choice for our Leadership Committee, having earned the immediate respect, admiration, and friendship of his teammates.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Ben enriched the world, and his absence will be profoundly felt.”

Christman had recently joined UNLV after previously playing for both Kentucky and Ohio State.

University president Keith E. Whitfield conveyed his sorrow upon learning of Christman’s passing.

“Words cannot adequately capture the pain of losing a young member of our university community so suddenly, and my heart aches for all who cherished him,” he stated. “On behalf of UNLV, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Ben’s family, friends, loved ones, and teammates during this incredibly difficult time.”
