Elliot Page, the Canadian actor formerly known as Ellen Page, who now identifies as a transgender man, is assuring children that they will find “happiness” if they choose to pursue a gender transition.

“If I could speak to my younger self, I would say, ‘You know who you truly are, and embrace that,’” Page shared in a video released on social media by the far-left group American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The activist organization noted, “Elliot Page exemplified this sentiment. Trans individuals understand their identity, and we should be free to express our genuine selves.”

According to the ACLU’s website, “As trans rights, immigrant rights, and various civil liberties are under threat, we’re creating a barrier for freedom to safeguard everyone’s rights before the Trump administration assumes office.”

Shortly thereafter, conservative users on social media expressed their disdain for the ACLU’s post, labeling the organization as “hypocritical” for advocating “authentic selves” concerning Page, arguing that identifying as a different gender than one’s biological sex often seems like inauthentic appropriation.

“I recognized my truth,” the star of “Juno” explained. “It was an intense realization for me, but external influences caused me to lose sight of my identity.”

“Thus, to my younger self, I’d suggest that the discomfort and pain you’re experiencing—those feelings do not belong to you; they belong to others.”

“Just persist on discovering your true identity, and that will lead you to happiness,” concluded the actor.

Nonetheless, what happens if someone completes the lengthy transitioning process only to later no longer feel gender dysphoria? A Google AI Overview highlighted that “a sizable study found that detransitioners often struggle to find support from medical, mental health, or LGBTQ communities. Additionally, they may face adverse reactions from these groups.”

Therefore, if one’s perception of their gender alters in the future, they may not anticipate receiving help or support from the LGBTQ community or the medical and psychiatric fields that initially supported them. Moreover, they could face negative backlash and potential condemnation from these organizations, as per responses from Google’s AI tool.

Users on X who support gender transitioning for minors also weighed in on the issue.

“1. Detransitioners are extremely uncommon. 2. Being a detransitioner can easily lead one to become an anti-trans grifter, cashing in on false narratives…” commented leftist X user @DanteofAlmeida.

Gender dysphoria refers to the distress a person feels when their assigned sex at birth doesn’t align with their internal sense of gender identity.

In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) removed “gender identity disorder” (gender dysphoria) from its diagnostic manual for mental illnesses, as reported by CBS News.

As noted by the BBC, Dr. Lale Say, a WHO official, explained: “We concluded it was removed from mental health disorders because we better understood that this was not a mental health issue, and retaining it there was perpetuating stigma.”

However, similar to typical practices of the WHO, the doctor offered no clarification on why it is no longer termed a mental illness.

The Merck Manuals, touted as “the global standard for medical reference for Doctors, Students & Consumers,” articulated that “the WHO implemented this modification in part to alleviate stigma for an already stigmatized condition.” Essentially, global entities removed the mental health classification to mitigate discrimination faced by these individuals. Yet, this still leaves the rationale for its reclassification unexplained.

Page, who had breast surgery in 2021 at the age of 34 after publicly identifying as transgender the previous year, has continually advocated for transgenderism among youth. Recently, as Supreme Court justices deliberated a case regarding Tennessee’s law banning sex reassignment medications and surgeries for minors with gender dysphoria, Page also organized a rally outside the Supreme Court.
